107. DOMAINE DE LA HILLE.
DESIGN & BUILD
Set within an 11th-century farmhouse in the South of France, this project involved the design and fabrication of a suite of spaces forming a key axis of a restored villa — including a large kitchen, dining room, and four adjoining rooms. We were invited to sensitively rework this portion of the property, balancing contemporary functionality with the historic fabric of the building.
The main kitchen features a 4-metre solid oak shelving unit, designed for generous open storage while maintaining a clean architectural line. Bespoke joinery was used throughout to integrate appliances and service elements, taking cues from traditional French Châteaux interiors while avoiding pastiche.
A second chef’s kitchen — designed to support large-scale cooking for up to 20 people — prioritises efficiency and accessibility. Open shelving systems replace traditional cabinetry to accommodate a high volume of equipment and varied users. The space is anchored by a substantial solid oak island, fabricated using traditional timber framing methods.
Throughout the project, material selection and detailing were carefully considered to complement the existing stone architecture and deliver a restrained but characterful addition to a much-loved home.
